Brand Your Business with Identity
A big part of the excitement of becoming an entrepreneur is getting to do something you care about and on your terms, no one else’s. Before the emergence of the internet as a business platform, becoming a successful entrepreneur was more difficult because you had to make sure there was a local market for your business before pouring your savings into it. Now, you have access to a worldwide market from the comfort of your home and you can get started with no savings at all.
Because there is a market online for just about anything, there’s no reason to choose a business that you’re not that interested in just because you think it will make money. The more passionate you are about something, the better chance you have at making it work and the more fun you’ll have with it to. When you’re thinking of what type of online business to run take your own identity into serious consideration and merge the two of them together.
The first question you might want to ask yourself is who you are. Are you creative? Down to earth? Sociable? Energized? Make a list of your most recognizable traits and think of what type of businesses would suit you best. There are personality quizzes and tests you can take to help you define your qualities a little better too. If you are a very creative person you could start a business selling your talents and if you’re a very persuasive person you may want to consider direct sales.
Once you narrow your attributes down it’s time to ask yourself where your true talents lie. When branding your business it’s important to define a set of values that you live and do business by, which is much easier to stick to if the values are naturally part of your identity. By making your personal strengths the core strengths of your business as well, you will have more confidence in your business and be better able to overcome obstacles and reach goals.
Now that you’ve matched your identity with your business, you can feel comfortable putting your name on it. Including your name with your business let’s people know there is a real person behind it who believes in it enough to put their name on the line. Being true to who you are is the most effective method of personal branding.
